Contest - Passion

The contest is closed. Thanks everyone for joining! I had enever expected to get so many entries in three months. They're all truly beautiful and very thoughtful. Make sure to read my comments below every entry.

Winners:

1st prize: Passion for Caine by Samaya

I really gasped at this one. Samaya told me she very badly wanted to outdo her first entry. And guess what? She did! Although there's no kissing, hugging or anything stereotypically romantic for that matter, this piece reveals a very true and deep passion. Congratulations, Samaya! Your original interpretation of Passion has given you the first prize.

2nd pize: Molly and Caine by Michelle

Okay, so this one stuck to my retina like gum to a denim-clothed butt. There's just something about it. And oh god CHOCOLATE! :P Amazing pencilwork. Congratulations, Michelle! Your sensual picture has earned you the second prize.

Entries:

Toma with Passionfruit tea. By Anneth.

At first I lacked the lovely yellowish color the inside of a passionfruit has. But then I realized that its outside would fit her better: She's kinda dull on the outside, yet warm and passionate on the inside. The drawing isn't bad at all, considering Ann has just started her sketching career.

Gene and Kitty (Kitty's not my character). By Tinuviel.

There's something very sweet and innocent about this pic. Although it's quite simple, it really expresses some serious emotions.

Molly with fruits. By AzurCandy

I never imagined Molly could be so sweet! With fruits and all. I like the red color used for outlining.

Caine's passion. By Shannon

Caine: "Now you girls play with each other whole I watch...". The background really does it. Although they're not really doing anything, I find this piece very sexual. :P

Caine and Molly - Passion. By Samaya

Caine: "Sorry, babe. You're too young for me". Molly: "Boooo-hooooo!" Looks like some real passion to me. I really like the coloring.

Summer Lolita by Libby

The day you see me drawing that detailed... will never happen. Caine has an awful passion for lolita fashion. Those are some really nice outfits!

Molly and Zero. By Shellie

Aw, Molly with Zero! Very cute. Zero deserves more attention than he has now.

Holding hands. By Amy

Very interesting. I never thought of putting nailpolish and a bracelet on Molly. I kicked myself for it now when I saw how pretty she looked on this picture. I really dig the setup of having them facing each other and holding hands.

Molly and Rose by Hanna

You guys have no idea how glad I am you've discovered that there's something very interesting going on between Molly and Rose. It's gonna get more serious in the future. Not telling you more. I love Hanna's clean lines and her original style. It's awfully pretty!

Molly and Rose by Michelle

OMG more Molly and Rose :) This is truly passionate! I really really really like this picture as the perv that I am. Now you know how to get my attention.

Passion for Lolita by Lady Adokenai

I didn't quite understand this one until Lady Adokenai explained it to me. I only have half a brain, you know. Molly's life (uh... death) might be dark and sad but at least she has the joy of wearing a real pretty dress and feeling like a princess. Note the night shading. I tried some of that recently. Not easy. Love the dress too.

Tulip by Hanna

Never thought Tulip would get any attention. Very emotional. I feel sorry for poor Tulip.

Gold or Silver? by Haru Titan

Oooh, lotsa color :) I interpret it as the fact that Molly can have anything she likes in Dreamland she can choose between pecious stones, gold and silver. Anything can be dreamt up. That's a passion in itself, I think.

Molly and Caine by Cindy Wyland

Got me jumping out of my chair, Cindy! I was thinking of drawing something like this. Cindy says the wall tells you how close yet far away they are from each other. Me, I just thought of how their bedrooms are wall to wall.

Most titles are written by me, not artist. :P

This summer Dead in Dreamland is celebrating its one year anniversary. As a part of the party menu I thought I'd have a little contest. This is an art contest. No, don't run! Please keep reading!

Rules:

* This is what I want you to do: Draw a picture on the theme PASSION. Passion for maids, passion for men in trenchcoats, passion for guns, passion fruit? I don't know, it's up to you to interpret the theme. Your picture has to involve Dead in Dreamland characters.

* If you find the theme hard: think in the terms love-romance-desire. Works just as well.

* Your entry must be in color. Media of your choice. I require at least ONE color on top of black and white.

* Deadline end of August. If you feel that you need an extension by that time, please mail me.

* You can either scan or photograph your entry. Sometimes photos do more justice to color pics.

* You may not use ready made art; coloring books, dollmakers, etc.

First prize: An original DiD artwork in watercolor, drawn to your specs. I know I've never drawn anything for DiD in watercolor, but here's a sample of a different pic I made.

Second prize: An original DiD artwork in color pencil/ink, drawn to your specs.
